Herd
A downloadable game for Windows
A group of sheep are called a 'flock', not a herd. I found this out after I made all the assets and name...
About The Game-
[Herd] is a short game about a guiding a flock of sheep to the peak of a mountain, made for the Fireside Jam 2023, theme; Guide.
The day from the prophecy has come upon the mountain. You are to bring a sheep offering to the ancient ruins on the 5th day. Upon doing so, the residents of the mountain will be given a chance at a new life beyond the bounds of mountains and skies - called: The Transcendence. However, many wolves roam the mountain at night. Keep your sheep safe from danger using your voice and trusty dog sidekick. Will you make it to the ruins in time?
Have deep conversations with the residents of the mountains. Each with their own opinions on the Transcendence.
This game features "boid" mechanics, where sheep will flock together and stay together, while running away from predators and avoiding obstacles. You must use your voice and (eventually) dog to guide your sheep through safety.
Controls-
WASD - move
mouse movement - move camera
mouse left click - select and un-select (dog)
SPACE - shout / talk (if in proximity with an npc) / scare away wolves
SPACE (if dog is selected) - command dog
Notes-
Every day and night is approximately 2.5 - 3 minutes. (originally it was shorter, but I want everyone playing during the jam to complete and get to the end in time)
A full playthrough can be around 20 - 30 minutes. (5 days, 4 nights) (You can play for longer, explained below)
You will be pressing spacebar A LOT, so the sounds might get a bit annoying. (sorry, no volume control)
There are timed events. (won't tell you what they are, but just know that you might have to wait at certain points)
Upon hitting the night of the 5th day, you are unable to 'restart' the game because of the way I coded it (for now) so you'll have to close and re-open the game to do that. (sorry)
Any feedback is appreciated, as I would like to add a bit more content to the game, and a few more endings in the future.
